Marathon, Florida Vacation Photography // Part 1

A few weeks ago, two of my best friends and I were lucky enough to be able to take a road trip down to the Florida Keys since one of my friends (Matt) was dating another one of our friends who just so happened to be interning at the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon. How convenient right?! So we loaded up the car and picked Matt up in Kingsport and hit the road. We drove through the night starting around 8pm eastern time and made it there by around noon. Doing the speed limit, of course. We all shifted driving around and sleeping and such. I did more sleeping than anything haha. This is just part one of our trip, aka days 1 and 2. Days 3 and 4 are soon to come. This would have been an uber long post if I had condensed it all into one so here it is.

Part one of our Florida Keys adventure.

We started off at a local bar where we completely dominated trivia night and won 2 or 3 pitchers of beer thanks to our random fact knowledge. After that, we were all super tired from the drive so it was a pretty boring night after we got done drinking and just ended up back at the pool at the condo. The next day, pure laziness at the beach. I hadn’t had a chance to just sit on the beach and relax in a good year and a half or so. Not much to be said for that day aside from pure relaxation.

All images taken on a Mamiya 645 AFD, Leica M3 for color and all the black and white was taken with my new Yashica T5 (which I love)

- a truely amazing set of photos for the B&G…. awesome work

- lovely nostalgic feel to these.

- Looks like a great time!

- Nice documentary of the trip so far. I really love that black and white of the pier.

- I really love all the shots around the hotel. This makes me miss the beach the most, somehow – http://www.qualityimagesupply.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/marathon-beach-florida-vacation-photography-13.jpg

- I want to go the beach now. Awesome images!

- Makes me want to take a road trip soooo bad.

Personal // Vacation

If some of you follow me on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter you will know that I spent a couple days all over the Florida Keys. I was super excited to go down there to hang with some of my best friends but I was very glad to come back to good ole TN. I’ll go more in depth on my trip and what the next blog post will be about next time and about a few of the things I learned. Until then though, I’ll just leave the ONE digital picture I took of the sunset on our last night before the long journey home.

Personal // Nashville Film Shooters Meet-Up

I’ve said it before but I really do think we have one of the best, if not the best, communities in the country for group help. I talk with quite a few people all over the country and they all say that what we do here in Nashville is nothing like what they have. I feel lucky to have such talent in the area like , , , and . I’ve come to all of them with questions both in person and on the internet and they have no secrets. It’s such a help to have people there who are really big in the industry there willing to help. It was a fun afternoon filled with shooting. There were people there with copious amounts of experience and film is the only thing they shot, people who had hardly shot any film at all and then you had me kind of in the middle who is still in the transition stage and shoots a good bit of film but not strictly film yet. Also in attendance was , and a few others as well as our models. I’m definitely looking forward to doing more of these in the future. I think everyone made some new friends that day.

Nashville Wedding Photographer // Melissa + Adam

A while back, like in February, I was asked by  to assist her shooting her very first wedding. Of course I was MORE than happy to do this. Especially when I saw the location. Wow. That’s all that I can say. Adam’s family owns this beautiful patch of land a little bit past Nashville, TN in a small town called Lyle, TN. It was quite the car ride there. “Over the river and through the woods to grandmothers house we go,” (Make sure you sing it in song for full effect) now has an entirely new meaning to me haha. Once I arrived, I was greeted with open arms by everyone I met. Literally everyone. Adam’s family was outside and all greeted me like I was an old friend while they showed me around their amazing yard. And I almost feel bad calling it a yard. It looks more like a sanctuary. Every last detail was laid out perfectly. They definitely achieved the “small backyard wedding with a small group of family and close friends” type of wedding. A small group of 30-40 people were in attendance and you could feel the love of a much larger wedding there. Even after the wedding, everyone just ate and hung out. No cheesy “All the single ladies” or “Cupid Shuffle” nonsense for a reception. Just time with each other. This small, very laid back wedding is definitely something I could get used to.  I’m going to quit typing because it is still difficult for me to find words that tell a day better than images, so here you go.

Everything shot on a Canon EOS3 or Mamiya 645AFD with Portra 400 or Fuji 400H film.
